TESTIMONIALS

Previous participants describe their experiences of the Art Life Journalling course in their own words

Cherie

When I signed up I hoped to develop a proper art practice and better art habits. I had no idea that I would learn so much about my art preferences not just about myself. I also didn't expect to find a group of people who would become friends, and who I might turn to, to push me along my art pathway.

I'm so very glad I did it and I am looking forward to our monthly meet-ups.

Rachel is an excellent facilitator and adapts to the needs and levels of people within the group. No one felt left out at any point and I think we've all come away with personal insights which we can return to as we allow our inner artists to grow.

Thank you Rachel.

I joined the Art Life Journalling course as I needed to quiet the noise in my head and find some clarity for my next steps in life due to a change of career.

I really enjoyed the exercises we did during the class and found peace and contentment whilst doing them at home - I found some head space which was much needed!

What I didn't expect was to meet such a lovely bunch of people whom I felt very comfortable with. I felt supported and was able to share some difficult moments that I was experiencing due to being off work with stress. I look forward to seeing them again at the monthly Journalling Club.

Rachel provided a non judgemental, safe environment with flexibility to accommodate all skill levels and meet people where they're at.

I also found a fascination with watercolours and have been inspired to develop my painting skills in this area, and made the decision to pursue my creative writing further.

Thank you Rachel for a really super art life journalling course. I wasn't sure what to expect but from the first session to the last it unlocked a lot of doors in my head and helped me clarify my thoughts about my own need to be creative as the weeks went by. The generous way you shared your journal in week one helped set us all off on paths of exploration in our different ways.

The card pack activities were both thought provoking and fun. The 'homework' was really valuable in giving us the challenge of trying out something new and I found myself thinking a lot about how to complete them and trying things out of my comfort zone.

The opportunity to share and chat and compare notes was amazing and it was quite inspiring to see everyone's work and ideas and realise we had many experiences, yet everyone had their own unique method of interpreting the brief. Your very skilled approach managed to steer me as a non-analytical person into a bit more rigour- this is one of the things I will take away. My overriding feeling is that because you had put such a lot into the planning and delivery of the course, so we all gained a very great deal from it. It helped me be 'me'!

I joined Rachel's course at a time when I had lost my artistic sense of direction. The relaxed, mindful atmosphere of the group combined with expert teaching clarified my creative story so far. Perhaps more importantly, it helped me to find the path I wanted to follow - and I made some wonderful new friends along the way. Creating my journal was the exciting spark I needed to regain my confidence; I now feel motivated and confident, with a clear vision for the future.

Rachel, Thank you for a lovely art life journal course. I found it very interesting and engaging. It got me thinking about things in a new way, and in some cases, made me think of things I hadn't even considered. I'm keen to look into moonshot plans and mindmapping for an upcoming project.

The course has made me see that I have recurring themes that crop up no matter what the situation/question, and that I would like to incorporate those themes into my future artwork so they feel more 'me'. I shall use the tools in the course to allow me to explore those ideas more.

I would love to attand again!

I have found the art life journalling course extremely inspiring. I have been surprised at the varying directions it has taken me in and the range of emotions that have arisen throughout.

It has encouraged me to use a range of media, crafting and photographs etc. I was surprised about the different interpretations within the group. I especially enjoyed the 'homework' suggestions that led me in all sorts of different directions. I particularly enjoyed thinking about my desert island discs, creating my own coat of arms and attempting artwork in the style of some famous artists. Recalling past family activities and events through art has been fascinating too, and I've learn't that , within my art and craft I'd like to develop a more abstract approach and be less literal!

Thanks so much Rachel for the inspiration- I just hope I can continue to create without you.

I signed up to the Art Journalling course because I wanted some accountability and prompts to be creative more regularly.

The course has totally delivered that but has also really made me reflect on how creativity has ebbed and flowed during my life and highlighted the ways of thinking that can hold me back.

It's also been a lovely surprise to connect so quickly with the group- I've felt very comfortable with sharing deeper issues. It's also been lovely to be introduced to different artists and mediums and see how everyone has developed over the weeks.

Rachel is such a fab teacher- she is so kind and accepting. The welcoming environment she creates is the best thing about art journalling!
